Introduction to ViCare Smart Climate

Before you can use ViCare Smart Climate devices, you must first set them up. Start by adding your first device in the ViCare app - for example a ViCare Radiator Thermostat.* This is because you need it to be able to use all the benefits of ViCare Smart Climate and control the temperature on your radiator individually.

Proceed as follows to set up the thermostat:

  1. Open “Settings” in the ViCare app and tap on “ViCare Smart Climate” there.
  2. Select “Add new component”.
Important note for Viessmann heaters of the latest generation: If the “Add new component” button is not available, please contact your local technical support. The boiler may need to be reconfigured in order to function properly.
  3. Select the device and follow the instructions in the app.

After a successful pairing process, you see a confirmation screen in the app. The ViCare Radiator Thermostat is now connected to the system and can be installed on the radiator. You can find out how to install the thermostat here. Alternatively, follow the further instructions in the app or use the installation instructions included in the packaging. You can also find all instructions online here. Tip: Enter “ViCare” in the search bar and select “Operating instructions” on the left-hand side.

Note: The temperature values now displayed on the ViCare app dashboard are default values that you can change to the desired temperature. You can also set up time programs to further increase your comfort.

Adding a new Room in ViCare
To control the heating behavior of individual rooms, you must use the “Add new room” option in your ViCare app. This requires the installation of smart ViCare thermostats. These are especially useful if you have a Viessmann heating system with smart thermostats, as they allow for individually adjustable climate control.

How to add a new room:

        • Open “Settings” in the ViCare app and tap on “ViCare Smart Climate” there.
        • Tap on the “Add new room” button and select the desired room type. (Scroll down a little if you don’t see the button right away.)
        • Give the room the desired name.
        • After you have clicked on the “Finish” button, your room has been added to the system. The room can now be found in the “Your rooms” list on the main screen of the “ViCare Smart Climate” settings.

Please note: Rooms in which there are no radiator thermostats are not taken into account when creating a time program for the apartment. However, if floor heating is installed together with a climate sensor and a floor thermostat, these rooms can be included.

        Editing the Room
You can easily change the room name or room type in the ViCare app:

        • Go to “Settings” and select “ViCare Smart Climate”. Then choose the room you want to edit.
        • Select “Name” or “Type” to edit the room name or room type.
        • Save the changes by clicking on “Save”.

        Deleting the Room
If you want to remove a room from ViCare Smart Climate, proceed as follows:

        • Go to “Settings” and select “ViCare Smart Climate”. Then choose the room you want to delete.
        • Click on “Delete room” on the room properties screen.
        • Confirm your selection by clicking on “Yes, delete”. The room and all connected thermostats are now removed from ViCare Smart Climate System.

Please note: If you remove ViCare devices from a room, especially the ViCare Radiator Thermostat, you can no longer individually control the climate in the room in question.

        Further information:

If some rooms or parts of your home do not have their own ViCare Radiator Thermostats, you can still assure that a given area (here referred to as “Other Rooms”) can be controlled via the ViCare app. This feature is available for Viessmann heating devices from the 2019 generation onward.

For example, you may have thermostats installed in the living room, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor of your home, but not in the neighbouring office. “Other Rooms” cannot be controlled individually as they do not have their own smart thermostats or temperature measurement. Instead, the entire heating circuit in which the room is located is controlled.

        How to add “Other Rooms”:

        • Open “Settings” in the ViCare App and tap on “ViCare Smart Climate”.
        • Access the advanced settings by tapping the 3 dots in the top right corner.
        • Tap on “Other rooms settings” and activate the desired room using the toggle – either under “Floor Heating” or “Radiators”, depending on your setup.
        • Assign a name to the room by tapping on “Name”.
        • Lastly, you can enable or disable the Intelligent Pump Control. Please note that the Intelligent Pump Control may, under certain circumstances, result in insufficient heating of rooms that are not actively controlled by ViCare Smart Climate components.
        • After tapping “Done”, the room will be successfully added to the system.
        • It will now appear on the home dashboard and can also be accessed under “Other rooms settings” in the advanced settings (three dots in the top right corner) within the “ViCare Smart Climate” settings.

To prevent the temperature in “Other Rooms” from dropping too low, it is recommended to set time programs – either manually or using the Heating Schedule Assistant in the app. You can find instructions on how to use the Heating Time Assistant here. The temperature displayed on the dashboard for “Other Rooms” reflects the manually set target value – not a measured actual temperature.

In most cases, the right valve positions to be set manually are as follows:

        • 1 ≙ 12°C
        • 2 ≙ 16°C
        • 3 ≙ 20°C
        • 4 ≙ 24°C
        • 5 ≙ 28°C

If all rooms within a heating circuit are equipped with smart components, you can deactivate the “Other Rooms” function in the advanced settings. Please note: Deactivating this function means that no automatic heat demand will be triggered for these areas – you will need to manually ensure that the valve is set to the correct position.

Tip: “Other Rooms” can be renamed to your choice (e.g. “Office” or “Back Hallway”) so that it appears with this name on the tile on your ViCare app dashboard.

        Further information:

In the ViCare app dashboard, you can see each of the rooms you created in advance with its own time program. Each room is represented by a tile on which a temperature value is displayed. This refers to the temperature measured in the room by the ViCare Radiator Thermostat, ViCare Climate Sensor, or ViCare CO2 Sensor. If there is more than one thermostat in the room, you will be shown the average of the temperatures measured for a room. If a ViCare Climate Sensor is also present or if only climate sensors are used the value from the ViCare climate sensor is used as the reference. In ViCare, you must set a new time program for each room in which smart ViCare devices are installed. However, you also have the option to copy an existing time program to other rooms.

        Setting time programs
When you tap on a room tile, you’ll be taken to the room details section. Here, you can view the measured climate values (current temperature and, if a climate sensor is installed, also the humidity). You’ll also see the currently set target temperature as well as the active time schedule.

To create your first time program, click on the “Time program” button. The settings page for the respective room opens, where you can choose between different desired temperatures

        • “Reduced”: temperature suitable for sleeping time or absence
        • “Normal”: ideal temperature when you are at home
        • “Comfort”: warmer temperature if you want to be particularly comfortable

You can adjust the values for these three temperatures as required by clicking on the temperature value in 0.5 degree increments.

If you click on a room tile, you will find the “Time program” area there. There, you can click on a weekday to define the time periods during which your desired temperature should be maintained in the selected room. Up to four time phases can be added for each day and for each room to optimize your comfort. To do this, click on the “Set new time phase” button and select the relevant time period and the desired temperature. The time programs can be different for all days and rooms.

        Further options
In the room settings area, you will also find the “Options” button (3 dashes bottom right). Here you can copy days with their respective heating program for other days of the week, copy time programs for other rooms, start the heating time assistant or reset the time program.

“Copy day” and “Apply time program for other rooms” functions
After you have created a time program for the first day as described above, you can click on the “Options” (3 dashes bottom right) and copy the time program for any other day of the week or copy the time program to any other room. The temperature values can either also be copied or you can set the temperature values for each room separately.

        Reset Time Program
After tapping the “Options” (3 dashes bottom right), you can reset your time program by selecting the option with the same name. This will restore the default settings for the time schedule.

        Heating Time Assistant
As soon as you click on “Options” (3 dashes at the bottom right) and then on “Start assistant”, you can set up a time program for individual or all rooms in your home - to suit your lifestyle and daily routine. You can select the temperatures you are comfortable with when you are at home and the reduced value of the temperatures when you are not at home or asleep. The Heating Time Assistant places these temperature values in the days and time windows you select in the next steps. Once you have set up the entire time program, you can continue the setting for other days or end the setup and configure the remaining days at a different time. Click here to find out more about the Heating Time Assistant.

Vacation mode helps you save energy while you are away. During this period, all heating circuits are heated at the reduced desired temperature and your hot water is switched off. Frost protection mode remains active. The function depends on the system used and the respective software version.

        1. If you have a Viessmann One Base device:
Holiday mode with ViCare Smart Climate components is available if you have a Viessmann heat generator and ViCare with the latest version (except Vitodens 050 and Vitodens 100).

        2. If you are operating a Vitoconnect with a heat generator from another brand (Standalone):
Holiday mode is currently not available when using Vitoconnect without a Viessmann heat source.

        3. If you are using Vitoconnect with a Vitotronic device:
Holiday Mode is available if Smart Climate Control (SRC) is disabled first. To deactivate SRC in the ViCare app: Settings > ViCare Smart Climate > deactivate. Once SRC is turned off, Holiday Mode can be enabled individually for each heating circuit.

        How to activate Holiday Mode:

        1. Open the ViCare App.
        2. Tap the “Quick Selections” button in the bottom right corner.
        3. Select “Holiday”.
        4. Choose the start and end date of your absence.
        5. Confirm your settings.

Your normal heating schedule will be automatically overridden during the selected period.

Is the vacation mode not displayed?:
        Please check the following:

        • Is your ViCare app up to date?
        • Is Smart Climate Control (SRC) disabled (for Vitotronic systems)?
        • Is it a heat generator from another brand (currently not functioning)?

If you feel that the temperature in one of your rooms is not comfortable enough, but you do not want to change the time program settings, you can use the “Manual Mode” function. To activate this, you have two options:

        1. Simply turn the desired ViCare Radiator Thermostat by hand to set the temperature value according to your needs. The new temperature is transmitted to the Viessmann Cloud and applied to your heating system. It is then transferred to all thermostats assigned to this room.
        2. Change the temperature on the ViCare app dashboard by clicking on the desired room tile. In the settings area for this room, activate manual mode by tapping on the hand symbol below the temperature scale. If you change the temperature value in this way, the time program for the respective room pauses.

The change is applied for up to 2 hours with both procedures. Alternatively, you can switch it off manually in the room tile on the ViCare dashboard. In this case, the next temperature value is the one that was set in the time program for this room.

ViCare Smart Climate can be deactivated at any time in the ViCare app. To do this, click on “ViCare Smart Climate” under “Settings” and use the slider to deactivate it. This resets ViCare to the standard functions, i.e. heating circuits, operating modes and time assistant for heating circuits only.

However, the inactive ViCare Smart Climate option is still available. This means that all previous rooms and time programs will be found if you link at least one ViCare Radiator Thermostat to your system and reactivate ViCare Smart Climate.

Please note: When you remove the last active ViCare Radiator Thermostat from your installation, you also deactivate ViCare Smart Climate.
