No. Hot Water Optimizer does not interfere with your hygiene programme or legionella protection in any way.
What is the hygiene programme?
Many Viessmann heating systems include a hygiene programme that periodically heats your hot water to a high temperature to prevent the growth of Legionella bacteria. Legionella can develop in water that is stored at low temperatures for extended periods, so this regular heat-up cycle is an important safety measure.
How does Hot Water Optimizer relate to this?
Hot Water Optimizer only adjusts the everyday operating range of your hot water system, specifically, how warm the water gets during normal use before your system stops heating. It does not touch the hygiene programme or the minimum safety temperature that your system is required to maintain.
These safety functions are enforced at the system level, independently of Hot Water Optimizer. They will continue to run exactly as configured, regardless of whether Hot Water Optimizer is active or not.
What does Hot Water Optimizer never change?
The hygiene programme
The minimum hot water safety temperature (the lower limit set to prevent Legionella)
Any safety-related scheduling or system behaviour
In short: Hot Water Optimizer optimises your hot water efficiency within the boundaries your system already operates in. Your hygiene programme runs above and beyond those boundaries, completely untouched.
