How can I use Alexa to control the temperature in rooms where I have installed radiator thermostat valves?

Viessmann offers Alexa voice control for heating systems both with and without ViCare Smart Climate devices. This feature is called a “Skill.” You activate voice control by saying “my heating” followed by one of the commands or requests listed as examples below.

Please note that this service is only available in German and English and that multiple installations and/or multiple gateways are not supported.

Important: Please make sure to use the actual designation assigned to the respective heating circuit in your system instead of a general heating circuit name, for example, Heating Circuit 1. If you are using ViCare Smart Climate, use the name of the room instead, for example, Living Room. Please ensure that your rooms have distinct names so that Alexa can recognize where the change should take place.

When the temperature is changed via the Alexa voice assistant, the room switches to manual mode. This means that if you have a Vitoconnect, the room will stay at the desired temperature for 2 hours. For Viessmann OneBase systems (without Vitoconnect), the room will remain at the set temperature for 24 hours. After that, the room reverts to the schedule set in the ViCare app.

Examples of commands and queries:

The queries and commands for the measured temperature values are only available if the ViCare radiator thermostat is switched on and there are no errors. To control the thermostat, please use values in increments of 1, e.g. 21.0 or 22 degrees.

*are optional. The time frames of this schedule depend on the specific feature and by default these values are 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 210, 240 and 360 minutes. In case you decide to pass time which is not exact, it is being rounded to the nearest valid value. Unfortunately, we have no way to inform Alexa that the value is being rounded, so you would be notified about the original time. This is being done by Alexa itself and we have no possibility of changing this behavior.

Below you can find examples of commands and queries recognizable by Alexa as standard skills. Just remember to name each of your rooms differently so that Alexa can recognize where the change should happen.

Please, remember also that you can use those skills only if your heating device supports the given features. Some of them are available only with ViCare Smart Climate functionality turned on in your ViCare app.
